Opened 1950, home of Flamengo and Fluminense in Rio de Janeiro

Overview

Built for the 1950 World Cup and once close to 200,000 in capacity, it shrank across renovations: the 1950 decider against Uruguay drew 173,850 paid, the Maracanazo heartbreak. The 2014 World Cup final and the 2016 Olympic ceremonies and football final, Brazil winning gold with a Neymar penalty, all belong to it. Flamengo and Fluminense share about 78,000 seats today.
