Overview

Perched on a ridge visible across the city, its steep Gallowgate and Milburn ends tower over the streets below. Football was first played on the slope in 1880, and Newcastle formed at the ground in 1892. It staged Euro 96 matches and 2012 Olympic football. The Saudi era takeover revived talk of expansion beyond 60,000.
