Engineer Pier Luigi Nervi contributed the helical ramps and the distinctive spiral tower that make it a landmark of modernist stadium design. Fiorentina have played here since 1931, through the Batistuta goals of the 1990s and beyond. It hosted 1990 World Cup matches. Renovation and possible rebuild plans have circulated for years.
